Mozambican Journalist Paulo Machava was shot dead on the morning of 28 August by unidentified individuals travelling in a car in Maputo.
Machava was the editor of the online newspaper Diario de Noticias, and was returning from his morning walk a little after 0600 when the criminals killed him with two shots on the corner of Avenue Vladimir Lenin and Avenue Agostinho Neto, in central Maputo.
The criminals did not even leave the car, they “relaxed and fired the shots, then continued without even speeding up much,” witnesses recounted. Machava was an experienced journalist. He had worked for Radio Mocambique, and in the weeklies Savana and Zambeze before founding Diario de Noticias and the weekly Embondeiro.
